Yearly Maintenance for Your Security Alarm System

Many homes have security alarm systems installed but do not properly maintain those systems.

It’s important to have maintenance performed on a security system when you first move into a house with an existing alarm or if you are the owner of an existing alarm, it’s important to have them serviced once a year.

A normal alarm maintenance service takes around 30 minutes and includes:

  • Test the sirens are working correctly
  • Load test the main alarm unit back up battery – These usually last 3 to 6 years
  • Check alarm remote batteries – these tend to need replacing each year
  • Check batteries for any wireless sensors – These usually last 3 to 6 years
  • Check alarm sensors and adjust the positions when necessary as changes within the zone they monitor might have changed that need to be compensated for such as heat pumps, HRV systems, large household items or knocked during household cleaning

Sirens keep activating at this address, one of ten units in a high density complex.  We were sent there by the property management company.  The alarm system is a Micron and we found a faulty tamper circuit was causing the problem.  To remedy the issue, we disconnected and bypassed the tamper circuit so the tenants can continue to use the alarm.

Customer Example - Moving into a New Home with an Existing Alarm

A new customer contacted us as a result of a daylight burglary when the front door was smashed one week after arriving in NZ and moving into a new home.  We evaluated the existing alarm and suggested moving one sensor to a better location and adding two further sensors to the house.  The work was completed and the customer also connected to our monitoring station via a GPRS dialler as they only have naked broadband.
